PARKING OPERATOR UPDATE

Victoria International Airport Awards Parking Management Services Contract to LAZ Parking Canada
June 2025

VAA has awarded the Victoria International Airport’s parking services contract to LAZ Parking Canada, Inc., a Canadian subsidiary of US-based LAZ Parking, which operates airport parking experience across North America including Calgary and Edmonton. LAZ Parking Canada brings advanced technology, operational excellence, and a strong commitment to sustainability, team culture and customer care. The transition will be seamless for travellers, with new service enhancements planned to support YYJ’s vision as a world-class regional airport. LAZ Parking Canada’s management of parking operations began June 1, 2025.

Why a new service provider? As part of its regular business practices, Victoria Airport Authority (VAA) reviews major service contracts to ensure value, efficiency, and alignment with the airport’s evolving needs. As the existing parking services contract was expiring, and had not been reviewed in many years, VAA initiated a competitive Request for Proposal (RFP) process in 2024 to select the best partner to support YYJ’s continued growth and customer service goals.

The process was guided by global parking consultants and conducted by an internal evaluation panel. Proposals were evaluated against clearly defined criteria including service quality, operational efficiency, technology, customer experience, sustainability, and cost. The goal was to identify a partner capable of delivering innovative, efficient, future-ready parking services that will enhance the overall airport experience.

What impact does parking have on airport operations? The money raised by parking fees represent nearly 30 percent of airport revenue, which is invested back into infrastructure and community initiatives. LAZ Parking Canada will receive a management fee to operate YYJ parking, working with us as strong team partners and ensuring a balanced approach to our evolving parking needs as a growing airport.

About Victoria Airport Authority (VAA)

VAA is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, representing local communities and key stakeholder groups. The Board provides oversight, ensures adherence to sound governance practices, and helps guide the airport’s strategic direction to serve the needs of Vancouver Island’s residents, businesses, and visitors.
