Potential Labour Action at WestJet

Victoria International Airport (YYJ) is aware that both 72-hour strike notice and 72-hour lock-out notice have been issued as part of contract negotiations between WestJet and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), representing WestJet Cabin Crew across the country.

This means that WestJet service could be disrupted as of 12:01 a.m. Mountain time on Sunday, August 2, which is 11:01 p.m. Pacific time on Saturday, August 1.

While both parties continue to negotiate to reach an agreement at the table, YYJ is preparing for potential travel impacts should a work stoppage take place.

Passengers travelling with WestJet are advised to check the status of their flight through WestJet’s mobile app or at www.westjet.com before coming to the airport.

YYJ will continue to post the latest updates on our social channels as well as on www.yyj.ca.

Visit our community pollinator garden, a place to learn, play, and celebrate the biodiversity of native plants and pollinator species! At the garden, you are on the traditional territory of the W̱SÁNEĆ people, who have stewarded this area since time immemorial and whose relationship with the land continues to teach and inspire us to this day.

This garden, installed in 2022, was designed to contribute to regenerating the culturally significant Garry oak ecosystem that once thrived on YYJ lands. Watch the garden change throughout the season. In the summer, look out for bees and butterflies flitting from flower to flower. In the winter, tread softly as pollinators lay dormant among leaf debris, logs, and underground nests.  View our garden guide to learn more about the native plant species you can find throughout the garden space.  Enjoy!
