Future in Flight – Call for First Nations Artists

The Victoria Airport Authority (VAA), in partnership with the W̱SÁNEĆ Nations, is inviting First Nations artists to submit portfolios and expressions of interest for Future in Flight: Honouring Partnership through Design, a new initiative to create a visual identity for the recently signed W̱SÁNEĆ–Victoria Airport Authority Friendship Agreement.

Signed in February 2026, the Friendship Agreement reflects a shared commitment to ÁTOL (Respect), ĆȺINEUEL (Co-operation), and HIWESTEL (Partnership) between the W̱SÁNEĆ Nations and the Victoria Airport Authority. The Future in Flight project seeks to create a meaningful and lasting symbol that honours this relationship while celebrating connection, culture, place, and shared future.

The call is open to First Nations artists, with priority given to artists connected to the W̱SÁNEĆ Nations. Artists are invited to submit a portfolio of past work and a brief statement of interest. In keeping with professional design best practices, artists are not required to submit logo concepts or completed designs at this stage.

Artists who incorporate mentorship opportunities for emerging First Nations artists are encouraged to do so, as mentorship and intergenerational knowledge sharing are key goals of the initiative.

Submissions will be accepted until July 31, 2026. Additional information and submission details are available through the W̱SÁNEĆ Leadership Council and Victoria Airport Authority.
