Victoria International Airport Partners with #NotInMyCity to Combat Human Trafficking
As Canada marks National Human Trafficking Awareness Day on February 22, Victoria International Airport (YYJ) is announcing a new partnership with #NotInMyCity, a national movement committed to preventing and ending human trafficking in Canada. Through this collaboration, YYJ is reinforcing its dedication to providing a safe, secure, and welcoming travel environment by raising awareness, educating airport staff and passengers, and enhancing efforts to identify and disrupt human trafficking within the aviation sector.
“At Victoria International Airport, the safety and well-being of everyone who passes through our terminal is a top priority,” said Elizabeth Brown, President and CEO of Victoria Airport Authority. “By partnering with #NotInMyCity, we are taking meaningful action to combat human trafficking. This partnership will empower our employees with the knowledge and tools to help identify potential risks and contribute to a broader community effort to protect vulnerable individuals.”
As an important transportation hub on Vancouver Island, YYJ recognizes its role in supporting initiatives that enhance public safety and help prevent exploitation. Through the #NotInMyCity partnership, frontline airport staff have completed specialized human trafficking awareness training to better identify and respond to the signs of trafficking. Clear reporting protocols are in place to ensure concerns are escalated appropriately and efficiently. In addition, YYJ is rolling out an awareness campaign throughout the terminal. Educational signage and materials will help inform passengers and employees about the indicators of human trafficking and encourage reporting, further strengthening a culture of vigilance and shared responsibility.
“We are pleased to welcome Victoria International Airport to our growing network of allies,” says Paul Brandt, Founder, #NotInMyCity. “Each new partner strengthens our collective ability to recognize, respond to, and prevent human trafficking in Canada.”
By joining #NotInMyCity, YYJ becomes part of a growing national network of organizations across aviation, hospitality, transportation, and other sectors working collaboratively to raise awareness, disrupt trafficking networks, and support prevention efforts across Canada.
