Victoria International Airport Prepares for Busy Holiday Season
Victoria, BC (December 12, 2025) – Victoria International Airport (YYJ) is preparing for one of the busiest travel periods of the year, with peak passenger volumes expected between December 20 and January 5. YYJ is encouraging travellers and those picking up passengers to plan ahead, allow extra time, and stay informed as holiday demand, winter weather, and increased curbside activity contribute to a busier-than-usual airport experience.
“We love seeing the terminal filled with holiday travellers,” said Erin Brocklebank, YYJ’s Manager of Communications and Engagement. “If you arrive a little earlier than usual, you’ll get through the busy parts and still have time to relax and enjoy the festive atmosphere – whether that’s grabbing a hot chocolate and doing a little shopping, taking in the decorations, or listening to live holiday music before takeoff.”
Travellers are encouraged to arrive at least two to three hours before departure to allow ample time for parking, check-in, and pre-board security screening. YYJ offers over 2,600 public parking stalls, with additional overflow areas available, and parking attendants will be on-site during peak periods to help direct vehicles. Those picking up arriving passengers are asked to use the short-term parking lot, as curbside space is limited and reserved for passengers with reduced mobility.
Travellers are also reminded to follow screening guidelines, pack smart, and avoid placing prohibited items in carry-on baggage. Gifts should be left unwrapped or placed in unsealed gift bags, as security officers may need to inspect them during screening. Before heading to the airport, passengers should check their flight status through their airline’s website or app for the latest schedule updates.
Throughout the holiday season, visitors can enjoy a festive YYJ experience featuring seasonal decor, live holiday music, and local dining options. For last-minute gifts, travellers can browse the shops located both pre- and post-security, many of which offer extended hours.
“We’d like to thank our passengers, community, and partners for their continued support throughout 2025,” added Erin Brocklebank. “We wish everyone safe and happy travels this holiday season.” For more YYJ Holiday Travel Tips, visit https://yyj.ca/travel-info/holiday-travel-tips/.
